Filly & Mare Sprint Preview

This race had been anticipated as one of the stronger runnings of this unique seven-furlong contest for fillies and mares. Yet, veterinary inspections led to multiple withdrawals this morning, such as leading runners Sweet Azteca and Tamara.

As a result, the field looks significantly reduced, but trainer Bob Baffert has a major opportunity to secure his 20th Breeders’ Cup win. His entrants feature Richi along with Splendora, while Hope Road, winner of the Grade One Ballerina Stakes, is considered the main challenger.

One of the leading European contenders, Arizona Blaze, was scratched yesterday, but attention remains on Khaadem with rider Frankie Dettori, who aim to follow up a recent Grade One win from the Woodford Stakes.

Other notable runners are Bucanero Fuerte as well as She’s Quality, each with strong credentials. The US-trained rivals like Motorious, Ag Bullet, and Reef Runner present serious challenges, with Ag Bullet showing elite-level ability at Saratoga.
