Royal Statement on Prince Andrew Seen as 'Justification' for Giuffre, States Her Family

This historic statement from Buckingham Palace stripping Prince Andrew of his title is seen as an "recognition" that events occurred to the late Virginia Giuffre, her family have stated.

In its statement on the specified day, the palace said that the Duke of York – under his current designation – will also vacate his residence in Windsor, Royal Lodge, since his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein continue to cause controversy.

Their announcement concluded with: “The King and Queen aim to emphasize that their considerations and deepest sympathies have been and will remain with the victims and survivors of every forms of abuse.”

Family Response: Recognition and Accountability

Questioned whether this suggested that King Charles trusts Virginia over Andrew, Giuffre's sibling Sky Roberts remarked: “Without a doubt, in my view that his words convey distinctly in that announcement when he states he’s with survivors out there.

“It’s an acknowledgment that something occurred, incidents transpired. There has been a change,” he noted.

Giuffre’s sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, commented: “Issuing such recognition out for survivors is huge. We haven’t seen that from other parties, and to acknowledge that there are affected individuals in this case is an affirmation that wrongdoing did occur.

“It is the initial step for that resolution for survivors. It is first the admission that events unfolded here. There was genuine suffering that affected these adolescent females.”

Through a posthumous memoir, Giuffre – who passed away recently – repeated allegations that, in her youth, she had sex with Mountbatten Windsor on multiple instances. He has consistently refuted any wrongdoing. He resolved a legal dispute with Giuffre for a reported £12m without accepting of responsibility.

She described the announcement by the palace as a “triumph” and “justification on behalf of our sister”.

“We are so exceptionally proud of her, but then the sadness strikes because you wish she was here to share this moment together with her – a moment that she has been waiting for, for a very long time,” she continued.

Support Organizations React: Powerful Message for Survivors

Gender equality advocates and advocacy groups likewise welcomed the decision by the royal family, with some saying it conveyed an important signal to survivors of assault.

Gemma Sherrington, chief executive of Refuge, said it was “incredibly powerful to see survivors recognised so explicitly in a statement from the palace”, adding that it sent a signal that “survivors matter, that their experiences are believed, and that they merit to be at the heart of public conversations about abuse”.

Another advocate, the chief executive at the Fawcett Society, said “it is a positive recognition that the real victims here are not discomfited officials or fallen royals, but the females who were sexually assaulted by entitled, misogynistic men.”

Nonetheless, she continued: “Stripping a honor, or moving house can not be considered true accountability or adequate consequence. Indeed, one brave woman, Virginia Giuffre, has passed away. It was a terrible tragedy, and a indication of the profound impact sexual assault has on female victims.”

Honoring Virginia Giuffre: A "Resolute Fighter"

Portraying Giuffre’s character and pursuit of truth, Sky expressed she was a “strong warrior” who could also be cheeky and goofy.

“This is an ordinary girl from an ordinary family that achieved something extraordinary and in my opinion this is something the world should be proud of.

“Giuffre was this strong warrior who refused to back down and spoke out courageously and now we are finally getting that acknowledgment that she truly was a global icon.”

Royal officials offered no response.
